PACU Registered Nurse – Full-time
Candidate would be responsible for the total post-anesthesia nursing care and safety of the patient while in the post-anesthesia recovery room.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensures that all needed equipment and supplies are stocked and readily available.
- Monitors and documents the patient’s vital signs and level of consciousness as per nursing procedure.
- Assists the anesthesiologist or other attending physicians as requested.
- Documents all nursing activities and writes a nursing discharge note when the anesthesiologist documents that the patient is ready to be discharged from the Center.
- Readies the patient for discharge from the Center, including the review of the physician’s discharge instructions with the patient and/or the patient’s family and answers any questions they may have.
- Performs the pre-operative patient assessment on the day of surgery and readies the patient for the procedure.
- Follows proper infection control and safety practices in the performance of all duties.
Job Requirements
- Must have 2 years or more of clinical experience in a post-operative nursing environment.
- Current licensure in the State of New York as a Registered Nurse
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred
- Basic Life Support certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- Child Abuse and Infection Control certificate required.
- Knowledge of Ophthalmology is a plus but not required.
- Must be able to collaborate with nursing colleagues and the interdisciplinary team
- Flexibility to work Sundays (rotating schedule)
